MBTA Red Line train crosses the Neponset River 1988 Original Kodachrome SlideMassachusetts Bay Transportation Authority #5 Cambridge-Dorchester train Red Line train to Braintree starts crossing the Neponset River between Boston and Quincy. Only an abutment remains of the Old Colony railroad bridge, removed after it burned in 1960 one year after the end of Old Colony passenger service. Later the bridge would be rebuilt for restoration of commuter rail service to Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush. The restored Old Colony line is mostly single track and has already reached capacity.
